Lester H. Luebke, age 98, of 2400 Hwy 42, Manitowoc, passed away on Sunday, Dec 9, 2001, at Shady Lane Home in Manitowoc where he had been a resident the last 9 months.
A funeral services will be conducted for Lester on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, W3401 Orchard Road, Town of Herman, with the Rev. David Wernecke, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 31, 1903 in the Town of Newton, a son of the late George and Lena (Schnell) Luebke. Lester attended Elm Grove District School in the Town of Newton. As a young man, he worked as a lumberjack in upper Michigan. Linda H. Schreiber and Lester H. Luebke were united in marriage on Dec. 28, 1929at St. Johns United Church of Christ, Schwartzwald. The couple farmed in the Town of Newton for ten years, moving to the Schreiber homestead farm on the county line where they farmed until 1969. Lester was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Schwarzwald where he had held various office within the congregation. He was a member of Lake to Lake, Equity Livestock Association, the Farm Bureau and Cleveland Coop.
Surviving Lester is his loving wife of 71 years; six sons, Henry (Myra) of Town Newton, Harold (Ann) of Valders, Alfred (Naomi) of Town Meeme, Roy of Manitowoc, Wayne of Green Bay and David (Julianne) of Town of Newton; two daughters, Lila Vogt of Manitowoc and Loretta (Alvin) Kracht of Town Meeme. Lester is further survived by 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Martin (Ida) Luebke of Valders and one sister-in-law, Edna Reinke of Sheboygan.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, a grandson, Jeffrey Vogt, a great-great-grandson, Austin Gettter and a son-in-law, Arland Voight.
