Funeral services for Mrs. Carol Ann Lucas Parks, 65, of Oxford will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Miller Funeral Home with Bishop David R. Huskins officiating. Mrs. Parks passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at her residence. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, David M. Parks, children, Abby M. Parks, of Oxford, David L. Parks and wife Catalina of Arlington, VA, Heather Parks Ross and husband Tim of Jacksonville, sister-in-laws, Gretchen P. Bateski and husband Tom and Susan P. Black and husband Grady. Mrs. Parks was born in Atlanta and was raised in Decatur, GA. She was a 1966 graduate of Avondale High School and attended DeKalb College. In 1963 she met her future husband, David M. Parks where they sang in the First Baptist Church of Avondale Estates youth choir and in 1967 they were married at the church. During their marriage she fulfilled her childhood dream of traveling abroad while living in Germany, England and Colorado. Her interests were singing and songwriting, playing the harp, acting, walking, swimming, pets, and wildlife. Her true passion was sharing the gospel through teaching Sunday School and home Bible studies. She was a member of The Cedar Lake Christian Center in Cedartown, GA and the JSU Calhoun County Civic Chorale. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Faith Brittainy Parks, parents, Herbert “Bud” and Gladys Lucas, and sister-in-law, Crystal P. Pitts. Mrs. Parks was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
