Gatewood, Don, 77, passed away on February 3, 2016, after a battle with cancer. Don was born in Covington, KY where he attended Boone County High School and upon graduation, attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY.

While in college, Don played football for four years, and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He met and married his loving wife, Maxine, and together they shared 57 years of blissful marriage. He helped start Plantation High School, and during this time he was a teacher, Head Football Coach and Athletic Director. After retiring from his post as Athletic Director, he continued working for the district in Drivers Education and served as a volunteer coach for Junior Varsity at South Plantation High School for his son, Doug until 2014.  The Governor of Kentucky awarded Don the "Kentucky Colonel Award".

Don is survived by his  three children and  seven grandchildren.  His wife, Maxine, precedes him in death.

Visitation will be Monday, from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, 10:00 AM at T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home and interment immediately following at Southern Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his loving memory to any breast research foundation.
