Geraldine “Jeri” Bernice Barlow Ingram, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was released into the Lord’s welcoming arms on Aug. 9, surrounded by her family at the Uintah Care Center. Jeri was born on July 13, 1933, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Newel and Margaret Barlow. She had an unwavering kindness to all.
She was preceded in death by her son, Wesley; her parents; two sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Ingram; son, Allan Ingram (Janice) of Redstone, Colorado; daughter, Diane Barmore (Gary) of Famington; daughter, Denice Stringham (Bret) of Vernal; grandchildren: Julie Gabriel (Steve), Telina Stringham, Chris Barmore (Alicia, Logan Barmore, Lang Ingram) (Amy) and Anna Cotton (Eddy); great-grandchildren: Easton Gabriel, Sadie and Sam Olson, Kestley Cotton and Mira Ingram.
She was raised in a one-room home with sheets hung to divide rooms, no indoor plumbing or running water. She worked in the beet and potato fields. She liked to look at hands. She said, “hands tell a story and record what you are and where you were when it mattered.”
Jeri met the love of her life, Richard, in Sweets Ballroom in Oakland, California. Richard asked her to dance and they danced the whole evening until he had to catch the bus to return to his ship as Coast Guard Serviceman. He shipped out and thought he would never see her again, but Jeri waited for him. They were married in Berkley, California, on Dec. 27, 1953, when he returned from overseas. Later the marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 25, 1955. Twins, Wesley and Allan, and daughters, Diane and Denice, were born in California. Soon after, Richard and Jeri moved to Vernal where they raised their children surrounded by family and friends.
Jeri was a member of the Mormon faith for many years where she taught primary and produced the ward bulletin. After marrying Richard, she worked as a bookkeeper, in Kern’s Department Store in California and at Bowden’s Company in Vernal. She worked hard to help support the family while also raising her children. She once said, she “liked to be pregnant because she could rest and still do something.”
In her golden years, you could find Jeri getting her hair done by Polly on Friday’s and having a meal at Golden Corral or JB’s. She enjoyed visiting her neighbors, friends and family.
The family wants to express their thanks to the staff at JB’s for the special attention they always extended to her and Richard. She received compassionate and heartfelt care at the end of her life from the Uintah Care Center and her family is deeply appreciative.
Jeri will be greatly missed by all, but most of all by her beloved husband and life-long dance partner, Richard.
Services will be held at the Ashley Valley Funeral Home on Aug. 13. Viewing will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Vernal Memorial Park next to her son, Wesley, and Richard’s parents, Paul and Rose Ingram.
