Elizabeth Maureen (Shepherd) Watkins, 88 of Lancaster, Missouri passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The daughter of Herman Edison and Ecil Jewel (Slavin) Shepherd, she was born on May 23, 1928 in Lancaster, Missouri.

She was a graduate of the Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Missouri. Following graduation from high school, she attended Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri and later transferred to Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri and received a Bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s degree in English.

On April 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert K. Watkins in Lancaster, Missouri at the home of her parents and to this union three children were born, Daniel Edison and twin daughters, Donna Lue and Dianna Sue.

Survivors include her husband, Robert K. Watkins of Lancaster, Missouri; her children, Dan Watkins and wife, Judy of Kansas City, Missouri, Donna Norman and husband, Doug of Downing, Missouri and Dianna Kinney and husband, Richard of Lancaster, Missouri; five grandchildren, Curtis Kinney of Lancaster, Missouri, Adam Watkins and wife, Kelly of Kansas City, Missouri, Melinda Shrout and husband, Steven of Mead, Colorado, Joel Norman and wife, Amy of Moberly, Missouri and Jonathon Norman and wife Alisha of Lewisville, Texas; six great grandchildren, Glorianna, Elizabeth, Annalisa, Lucilla and Levi Shrout of Mead, Colorado and Valan Norman of Moberly, Missouri; two nephews, Bruce Hall and wife, Shirley of Rolla, Missouri and Lewis Hall of Rolla, Missouri; three nieces, Sandra Andrews and husband, Dave of Sherman, Texas, Nancy Neadick and husband, Artie of Quincy, Illinois and Kathy Quintero and husband, Jose of Quincy, Illinois; several great nieces and nephews; one aunt, Florence Shepherd of Lancaster, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Wilma Watkins of Sherman, Texas; other family members and many friends.

Preceding Maureen in death were her parents and one sister, Beverly Hall and husband, Max Hall.

Maureen was a teacher for 38 years in Lancaster, Livonia, Downing and the Schuyler R-I School Systems. She was an active member in PEO and the Order of the Eastern Star in which she held numerous offices in each organization. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her local Bridge Club group. She was a faithful member of the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri. She was involved in CWS and the Wednesday morning Bible Study which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also sponsored a youth to attend NYR each year.

She loved having her family home for the holidays preparing the "big" family dinners and family reunions. Her "spunk" kept everyone in line and that will be missed!

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Christian Church with Billy Wallace, Pastor of the Lancaster Christian Church officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Jane Watkins. Special selections will be "Over The Sunset Mountains" and "Gentle Shepherd". Pallbearers will be Phil Beeler, Jason Schmitter, Dennis Starrett, Doug Shepherd, Jimmy Groseclose and Joe Beeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Mulvaney, Tim Slavin, Dwight Peterson, Brent Bondurant and Jay Reese.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Lancaster Christian Church. Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, Missouri.
