Daughter of Captain James Henry and Emily (Wilson) Swift, Maude moved from Coveland to Coupeville while she was a child. She attended Coupeville public schools and the Puget Sound Academy. She then went to Stowe, Vermont where she lived with her aunt, Mrs. George Wilkins, and furthered her studies at the Morrisville Academy and the Vermont State Normal School.
After teaching one term of school she married Harry Chadwick Fullington. Their children were Mary Fullington of Seattle and Birney Fullington of Vancouver, Washington. In 1910 they returned to the State of Washington and lived in Seattle. After her husband died in 1931 she returned to Coupeville where she spent the rest of her life.
