Vernon C. Anderson, 91, died September 4, 2016, at York Place Rehab and Nursing Center in Bertrand.

He was born July 23, 1925 in Safe, Mo, son of the late L.B. and Charlotte Anderson. Vernon had worked at Associated Natural Gas Company in Sikeston as bookkeeper for 35 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Santé Fe during World War II and he had been a member of Tanner Street Church of God since 1947.

On May 13, 1951, he married Josephine Chandler at Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston and survives in the home.

Other survivors include; two sons, Randy (Shari) of Grain Valley, Mo and Rod (Teresa) Anderson of Sikeston; one sister, Shirley Lancaster of West Plains, Mo; three grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Jeffries, Tyler and Jalin Anderson; and two great grandchildren, Kaden and Kylie Jo Jeffries.

One great grandchild preceded him in death, Luke Jeffries.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Ponder Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 9, at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. John Neeley, pastor of Tanner Street Church of God, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston with full military honors.
