John Wayne Flemings, 79, passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was born November 25, 1936 in Paris, Texas to John Walter and Pearl Lee (Moree) Flemings. He moved many times in his childhood but ended up in Nowata. Mr. Flemings married Cara Mae Barnes and they had one daughter, Connie. He later married Dorothy Marie Caskey in 1960 in Bristow, Oklahoma and they had one daughter, Ronda. He started roofing at a very early age, and in 1973 started Flemings Roofing and Sheet Metal Company of Tulsa. He also bought a cattle ranch in Nowata County with his brother Tommy Flemings in the 1970s. He retired from the roofing business to focus on the ranch. He enjoyed Sunday family dinners and taking grandma to the casino. Other hobbies included horse racing, when he raced and bred thoroughbred race horses, and playing the guitar. He also wrote some country songs. He had attended auctioneer school but never practiced the trade. John was survived by his wife, Dorothy Marie (Caskey) Flemings of the home; two daughters, Connie Ketring of Broken Arrow, Ronda and husband Mark Harbour of Nowata; six grandchildren, Ryan Ketring of Tulsa, April and husband Daniel Martinez of Broken Arrow, Jenny and husband Jesse Boyd of Fort Collins, Colorado, Justin Harbour and wife Jennifer of Nowata, Stacy Harbour of Bartlesville, Jessica Harbour of Nowata; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Proctor of Owasso and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Flemings was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Clarence William (Joe) Flemings, Tommy Lee Flemings; sisters, Joyce Pearl Garner and Katherine Prock; and a great-granddaughter, Jaycee Harbour. Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Hillside Christian Church, with Ben Killion officiating. Interment followed at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery.
