Hazel Rose Adams, age 90, rural Lamar, transitioned from life with her Lord in this world to life with Him in Heaven Friday, May 18, 2012, at Barton County Memorial Hospital.

Hazel was born August 27, 1921, at Gentry, Arkansas, one of six children of Jacob "Jake" and Nettie (Taylor) Ryan. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1939 and attended college in Springfield, Missouri. In addition to working along side her husband on the farm, she was employed at Big Smith, Nellie Don and retired in 1984 after many years with Finley Engineering.

Encouraged by her widowed mother to develop her voice while still a teen, Hazel became an accomplished vocalist with recording and performance opportunities. Though asthma and marriage changed her career path, the "Lamar Songbird's" talent and passion for music was evident and enjoyed by many throughout her life. She was an avid Bible reader, a Christian who lived her faith, instilling kindness and teaching by example. Most of all, Hazel was devoted to her family, who declare her greatest legacy is Love.

On August 1, 1940, at Jasper, Missouri, Hazel married Billee Bob Adams who survives at the home. Also surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Tina & Don Sieberns of Des Moines, Iowa, Frances & Dennis Cato and Connee & Mack Forrester all of Lamar; a sister, Helen Wallander, San Diego, California; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Ryan, Huntington Beach, California; three grandsons, David (Suzanne) Cato, Stephen (Debbie) Cato, Lamar, and Robert (Allison) Sieberns, Olpe, Kansas; a granddaughter, Heather (Matt) Perry, Prole, Iowa. She leaves six great-grandchildren, Drew (Cristine) Cato, Shelby (Luke) Davey, and Johnna Cato, Lamar; Zadok and Judah Perry, and Adrianna Sieberns; and three great-great-grandchildren, Evan, Dayton and Natalie Cato. Her many loving nieces and nephews brightened her life with flowers, visits and calls. Hazel was looking forward to another great-grandson in August.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Ryan; three sisters, Janis Howell, Bernice Newberry, Georgian Chapman; and a great-grandson, Stetson James Cato.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22nd, at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
