Fr. Athanasius Karlin Dies At Annapolis, Md
The Very Reverend Athanasius Carlin, O.F.M. Cap., a native Catherine, died Monday afternoon at Annapolis, Md., at the age of 72.
Father Karlin was in his 45th fear as a priest in the St. Augustine Province of the Capuchin Order. The Solemn Funeral Mass wil be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St Augustine's Church in Pittsburgh Pa.
Father Athanasius was welknown throughout the Ellis County area, having been stationed in St Fidelis Monastery, Victoria, for nearly 20 years. While at Victoria was superior at the monastery for many years and professor of Philosophy in St. Fidelis Seminary formerly located in that monastery. Father Athanasius also served on the board of consultors to the Father Provincial for a number of years.
Father Athanasius has been in ill health for the last 10 years, and has been stationed at Herman, Pa., Pittsburgh, Pa., and finally at Annapolis, Md.
Besides his brother-priest, Father George Karlin, O.F.M. Cap., Father Athanasius is survived by his brothers: Frank and Joe, of Catherine; Raymond, Salina; Leo, Denver; Sister M. Fidelis, C.S.A of Fond du Lac, Wis.; and Mrs. Dorothy Schmidt, Topeka.
Having preceded him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Athanasius Karlin, brothers Anthony and Edmund, and sisters, Mrs. Angela Staab and Mrs. Mary Staab.
