As a young adult Sarah started working at Golden Rod Processing in Cullman where she soon met Billy G. Childers. They were married on April 22, 1960. Over the next several years they were blessed with three children and the opportunity to start their own business, which is currently known as Childers Corner. The convenience store is located in the Oden Ridge community and is where both Billy and Sarah worked six days a week up until Sarah's stroke on July 13, 2016. Sarah was dedicated to serving her community and she always put others needs before her own. She loved spending time with the customers at the store as well as sewing, crocheting, cooking but above all she enjoyed spending time with family and reading the Bible. Although she will be missed by many, we can rest easy knowing that she lived her entire life for the Lord and is rejoicing with him now. She is proceeded in death by her parents, brothers, Zesper Phillips, Coy Phillips, Ira Phillips, Tommy Phillips, and Wayne Phillips; sisters, Violet Phillips, Marie Raney and Gail Harper.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Billy G. Childers; three children, Ricky (Lisa) Childers, Kathy (Jeff) Webb, and Melinda (Brad) Turrentine; grandchildren, Kayla (Justin) Howse, Hunter Jordan, Olivia Turrentine, all of Eva and Brandon (Sara) Turrentine of Hartselle; great grandchild Preston Turrentine; three sisters, Dell Miner, Betty Howard, and Cindy Mclnnis; also a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 2:00pm at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Brandon Berry and Brent Coley officiating. Burial will be in the Oden Ridge Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
