Reid Haywood, 93, was called home on Monday, May 20, 2019 by his wife, Betty, to celebrate her birthday. Reid and Betty were married on August 23, 1953. Reid was born, April 16, 1926 in Matthews, NC to Anna Belle and Millard Haywood.
He graduated from Wake Forest University in Wake Forest, NC. Reid will be honored for his service in the US Navy during WWII by the Randolph County Honor Guard. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign medal, WWII Victory Medal and WWII Victory Ribbon.
Reid was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, a daughter Debra Lynn Alley and a grandson Thomas Andrew Haywood, Sr., Army veteran.
Surviving are two sons, David Reid Haywood of Greensboro and Joseph Lee Haywood and wife Brenda of Summerfield and one daughter, Cindy H Starr and husband Michael of Stokesdale. 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00am at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC conducted by Reverend Doug Duggins. Interment will follow with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends afterwards at the home of Lee and Brenda Haywood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC 27405
