Coal miner; involved in several rescue operations after mine explosions; credited with saving 135 miners after the March 21,1929 Kinlock mine explosion; retired from mining in 1940 and became the custodian of the Copeland Building in New Kensingston until his death; moved to New Kensingston in 1928; was the official "lamp lighter" of gas street lights in Blainsville, Pa until gas street lights faded into history.
