She was born in Suffolk, VA on September 24, 1937 to the late Godwin and Nellie Earley (nee Parker).
Catherine served and retired from the American Red Cross located at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, MI. Through her role as director, she was able to travel both nationally and internationally providing relief to many disaster victims.
Catherine took her role as a mother very seriously and poured her heart into raising her family. During her children’s younger years, she enjoyed being a Cub Scout Den mother and hardly ever missed one of their sporting events. Catherine prided herself in her 3 sons and made sure that their education was a top priority for them. She was very proud of all 3 of her sons’ accomplishments, including her son Peter’s Army career recently retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Catherine was a 50 year active member of Oscoda Baptist Church and was a devote bible student. She enjoyed reading historical novels, traveling to visit historical places, playing jeopardy with her husband and doing crosswords puzzles. Catherine loved visiting with her family and friends and always had a kind, gentle word. She made sure to stay in touch with those she loved by sending them greeting cards to brighten their day.
Catherine is survived by her loving husband, Leonard Platteborze, who she married on July 17, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA; her children, Charles (Diana) Bush of Zebulon, NC, Paul (Denise) Platteborze of Ishpeming, MI and Peter (Lynn) Platteborze of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Andrew Bush, Rebecca Bush, Tia Platteborze, Zachery Platteborze and Kaydee Platteborze and great-granddaughter, Isabella Lee Bush. Catherine is also survived by her sister, Patricia (David) Jones of Oakridge, TN; sister-in-laws, Ann Earley of MS and Susan Sheffler of New Castle, PA; brother-in-laws, Louis (Joy) Platteborze of Traverse City, MI, Walter (Barbara) Platteborze of Old Saybrook, CT and Irv (Nancy) Dieterle of Ishpeming, MI.
