Matthew S. Dixon, 66, 1916 Sundale Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Dixon was a native of McDowell County, WV, and had been a resident of Johnson City for 41 years. He was a son of the late Elbert Monroe and Faye Sells Dixon. Mr. Dixon retired from the Veterans Administration after nearly 40 years of service as an x-ray technician and also in the recreation department. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve with a total of 30 years combined service. Mr. Dixon was a member of the Faith Fellowship Baptist Church and a member of the United Commercial Travelers 552. Survivors include his wife, Jane Mullins Dixon; one son, Deril W. Dixon, Paintsville, KY; one daughter, Pam D. Poston, Swannanoa, NC; two sisters, Ethel Rutherford, Abingdon, VA, and Lucy Leonard, Kingsport; two brothers, Bill Dixon, Winston-Salem, NC, and John Dixon, Clearbrook, VA; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at 8 p.m. from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Booney Crawford officiating. Graveside committal services will be held Saturday at 10;30 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery, Bristol, VA. For those who prefer, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice, c/o Johnson City Medical Center Foundation, 1807 West Market St., Johnson City, TN 37604. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday from the East Chapel of the funeral home. Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 East Watauga Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
