Funeral services for Gary Dean Merrell, 27, Weatherford, were Monday at 2 pm in Weatherford's First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Ware, minister of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of the Lockstone Funeral Home.
Merrell was born in Woodward July 27, 1958, and died as the result of injuries receive din a two-car collision near Union City March 22.
He attended the Mooreland Public Schools and graduated from high school in 1977. he was employed by a drilling company while in high school and had worked for the FWA Drilling Co. of Oklahoma City, Robinson Bros. Drilling of Woodward, Durkee Drilling of Houston, Texas and at the time of his death was employed by the One OK Drilling company as a driller.
He had been a tool pusher for three years before becoming a driller.
He married Sarah Anne Dunbar Oct 14, 1979, in Mooreland and had been a resident in Weatherford since the two were married.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford, the National Rifle Association, the Oklahoma Wildlife Association and a member of the Sooner Bowling League of Weatherford.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Anne, of the home in Weatherford; one daughter, 4 year old Lauren Rose, of the home; one son, 13 month old Joseph Charles, of the home; his mother, Margaret Merrell, Mooreland; three half-brothers, Bobby Brawner of Mooreland, Earnest Brawner of Canadian, Texas, and Terry Swann of Alva; two half-sisters, Linda Beeler of Alva and pat Garcia of Pleasanton, Texas; and his maternal grandmother, Edna Willoughby, Woodward.
