Bruce Coleman Murphy, 35, passed away at Sentara Obici Hospital, unexpectedly, Sunday, August 28, 2016. Born in Newport News, VA, Bruce was the son of Judy McFalls and Patrick Murphy and had been a resident of Isle of Wight and Surry County most of his life.

A veteran of the US Army, Bruce was proud of his affiliation with the military and was even prouder being Field Artillery AirBorne. He was stationed in Alaska and worked as a correctional officer. Returning to the area 6 years ago, Bruce worked as a logger with Chris Scott Logging. He was a motor cross enthusiast.
A beloved husband, father, son, brother, and grandson, Bruce leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shari; his children, Aaron, Hunter, and Giselle; his step-mother, Joan Murphy; his step-father, Keith Swain; his siblings, Karrie Alicia, Christina, Derek and Michael; paternal grandmother, Peggy Murphy; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. Bruce was brought up in the care of his maternal grandparents, Shirley and John “Mac” McFalls, who precede him in death. He is also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Stanley Murphy.

A service celebrating Bruce’s life will be held 1 pm, Friday, September 2, 2016, in Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private.

The family suggests memorial contributions, in Bruce’s memory, to the DAV, PO Box 14301
