Steffani was a daughter of William and Roberta Krause Hilgendorf and she was a graduate of Shawano High School, class of 1994. She then received her Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska On July 11, 1998. She married Richard A. Abegglen at Trinity Lutheran Church, Oshkosh. In 2004, Steffani began her employment with St. Paul Lutheran School in Luxemburg as a teacher. She was also a choir director for the St. Paul Lutheran School children's choir. Steffani's memberships included the Senior Choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She died unexpectedly at Aurora Medical Center at age 30.
