David Glen Finley, age 69, of Mattoon passed away at 11:55 a.m. on December 13, 2014 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Memorial services honoring his life will begin at 6:00 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Smyser Christian Church with Reverend Richard Coen officiating. A visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
David was born on January 31, 1945 in Mattoon, IL the son of Freddie Forrest and Dena Maxine (Jeffries) Finley. He married Rebecca Cline on January 27, 1965.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Rebecca “Becky” Finley of Gays, IL; daughter, Jo Ann (Neil) Luallen of Effingham, IL; son, Chad William (Michelle) Finley of Ashmore, IL; grandchildren, Alex Finley of Charlestong, IL and Alyssa Finley of Ashmore, IL; great granddaughter, Katherine Finley of Ashmore, IL; brother, Gary Roger (Ardeth) Finley of Mattoon, IL; sister, Karley Elaine Fahlsing of Tuscon, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews.
David was a lifelong farmer. He was a member, Associate Pastor and elder of Smyser Christian Church. David loved to sing. He sang and shared the gospel with the singing group, HIS (His In Service). David served on the Coles Moultrie Board of Directors and the Prairie Power Board (out of Jacksonville). He was also a member of the American Institute Electrical Coop. David cherished time spent with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
