ARLINGTON - Harvey William Ulmer Jr., 89, died Aug. 31, 2016, at his home in Arlington. He was born April 3, 1927, in Plevna, to Harvey William and Bessie Mae (Gagnebin) Ulmer Sr.

He was a 1945 graduate of Abbyville High School. Harvey was in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII and Korea. He was a grain elevator manager for Security Elevators and Collingwood Grain of Greensburg, a 57-year member of the Kiowa #293 Masonic Lodge, and was one of the founding members of Abbyville Community Church.

Upon retirement, Harvey served as county commissioner for Kiowa County and was appointed to the board of directors for Farmers State Bank in Bucklin and maintained the position until his death.

On May 19, 1952, Harvey married Joan D. Schardein in Huron, South Dakota. She survives. Other survivors include: sons, Ronnie Ulmer and wife Joyce of Newton, Bradley Ulmer and wife Shelly Ann of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandsons, Andrew Ulmer and wife Elizabeth of Bologna, Italy, Ayron Ulmer of Denver, Colo., Alex Ulmer of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; brother, Richard Ulmer of Henderson, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth May.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, at Abbyville Community Church, Abbyville, with Pastors Dale Levering and Keith Dellenbach officiating. Burial will follow in Partridge Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and from 5 to 9 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
