Dennis E. Starr was born into this world February 20, 1942. Son of the late Claude and Nellie Starr and left this world on September 1, 2016 to be with his Lord and Savior.
He was married to Starlie Burkholder (D) for 16 years then married Margie (Coon) Legge (D) for 16 years. Married Carolyn (Graham - Hayes) 8 years before seperating.
Mr. Starr was a Yardmaster with B&O / Chessie System / CSX Transportation for 42 1/2 years. He also worked as Terminal Manager and did many special projects for the railroad. Throughout his life he coached CYO Softball with his third and fourth grade teams winning city championships 7 out of 8 years. His only fifth and sixth grade team winning a championship. He coached little league baseball and umpired little league, pony league and colt league baseball. Dennis was an avid bowler and fisherman. He always looked forward to the fall Minnesota fishing trip with his father, grandfather, uncle Wink and railroad buddies for over 15 years. He was a dedicated fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. Dennis was a member of Garden City Christian Union Church.
He was blessed with three daughters, Beth (Starr) Ring of Columbus, Denise Starr D.V.M. of Union and Erica (Thomas) Dalton of Lima; son, Derrick Starr of Las Cruces, NM; step-daughter, Bobbi (Mark) Frysinger of Lima; step-son. Robert Legge Jr. of Lima; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and fourteen step-great grandchildren; significant other, Judy McPheron of Lima; sister, Sue (Tom) Wilkins of Lima; brother, Randy Starr of Lima and his faithful K-9 companions, Beezer Butt, Tinker, Brutus, and Swisher and his three cats, Buckeye, Streak and Roxanne.
He was preceded in death by sister, Norma Starr and brother, Rodney Starr.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 am Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at CHILES - LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Wayne Waltz will officiate the service. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the funeral home.
