Mr. Young had been a resident of Sterlington since 1951. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Northeast Louisiana Chapter of American Ex-Prisoner of War and the Sterlington Masonic Lodge. He retired from Southern Natural Gas in Perryville as chief field dispatcher after 39 years of service.
He served as a pilot in the 8th Air Force Offensive in Europe in WWII where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, four air medals, and Presidential Unit Citation. He was held as a German prisoner of war.
He was survived by his wife, Betty Young of Sterlington; three daughters, Josephine Young of Olympia, WA, Dot Stuart and husband Dave of Sterlington, and Margaret Peacock and husband Gary of Charlotte, NC; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
