Ethel Leona Rutherford, age 83, a resident of Abingdon passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born in West Virginia a daughter of the late Elbert Dixon and Faye Sells Dixon. She was a former employee of Old Dominion Box Company.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Goad; son, Gene Goad; three brothers, Bill Dixon, Matthew Dixon and Monroe Dixon; one sister, Helen Morris.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Wayne Rutherford of the home; one daughter, Betty Martin of Lexington, NC; two sons, Jimmy Goad and wife Connie of Abingdon and Wilson Goad and wife Diane of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Michael Goad and Robin Smith; one sister, Lucy Leonard of Kingsport; one brother, John Dixon of Clear Brook, VA; three great grandchildren; and two special brother-in-laws, Paul Rutherford and Tommy Rutherford.
Funeral Services for Ethel Rutherford will be conducted at 7 P.M. Monday, May 18, 2009 in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. until time of service Monday evening. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Frost Funeral Home of Abingdon (276-628-2131) is serving the Rutherford family.
