A retired schoolteacher from the Sarepta area is the woman killed in a wreck Aug. 31 on Interstate 20 in Webster Parish.

Judith Tripp Doyle, of the 1100 block of East Street, died on the eve of her 70th birthday. She is survived by 2 sons and a daughter, Webster Sheriff Gary Sexton said.

A tractor-trailer driver's inattentiveness to the highway is to blame for the crash that also injured at least 2 people, a Louisiana State Police spokesman said. There was no sign that the driver of that big rig was braking, the spokesman added.

The wreck involving two 18-wheelers and 5 passenger vehicles happened just before 6 p.m. Aug. 31 on eastbound I-20 near Dixie Inn.

The 2 injured people who had to be flown to a hospital for treatment are a 65-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, both of Ruston. Their names have yet to be released.

Sexton said the man, who was a passenger in the vehicle the woman was driving, was in critical condition the morning of Sept. 1 at University Health in Shreveport.

Eastbound I-20 was shut down at mile marker 42 for about 5 hours as crews worked to clean up the wreckage. Traffic was backed up for 6 miles at one point.
