Dorothy Green (Lebanon)
August 12, 1924 - September 1, 2016

Dorothy Edith Green, son of Jacob and Dorothy Bostic Strangulis, was born August 12, 1924, in Memel, Lithuania. She departed this life Thursday, September 1, 2016, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, and nineteen days.

On April 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to Samuel Forest Green, and to this union two daughters and one son were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam, on May 4, 2013; a son, Stephen Forest Green; and a brother, Alfred Strangulis.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Chris Stalhood, and her husband, Calvin, of Phillipsburg, Missouri, and Barbara Thompson, and her husband, John, of Fairhope, Alabama; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Freida Davis, of the State of Minnesota; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

She was born and raised in Lithuania and escaped from there during the war. While living in Germany, she met her future husband, Sam, who was serving in the United States Air Force. After she and Samuel were married, she entered the United States at Ellis Island by the Statue of Liberty. She and Sam made their home in various locations while he served in the military, and Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and mother, and was a supportive military wife. Once Samuel retired from the military, the family made their home in California, and lived in Sacramento from 1970 until 2011. Dorothy and Sam then moved to Phillipsburg, Missouri and settled on Sam’s family homestead.

Dorothy and Sam liked socializing with the other enlisted airman, playing bingo, and making trips to Lake Tahoe. She was a kind and helpful person who had taken care of her parents during the senior years. She was always willing to help others, and kept a close relationship with her sister. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her ninety-two years.

Memorial donations to the American Red Cross may be made through the funeral home.
