Jacob “Jake” A. Hughes, 19 years old, of Eureka, Missouri ended his life on August 27, 2016. Jake was born in Richmond, Virginia to David Bruce Hughes and Karen Barclay Hughes. His family moved to Missouri in 2008. Jake attended Eureka High School, graduating in 2015. Upon entering Truman State University as a freshman in 2015, he quickly found a home at the Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity, and just as quickly became very involved. He was a member of the executive board as chapter secretary by the end of his freshman year. The fraternity and all his brothers were very special to him. Jake was a passionate, creative young man who loved listening to and making music, loved to dance, loved to draw, and loved to put a smile on people’s faces. Jake was loved by many who will miss his clever wit, quick mind, beautiful smile, warm heart, wonderful sense of humor, generosity and his world-famous hugs. He was truly a special soul. Jake is survived by his mother Karen; his father David; his sister Kenna; his grandmothers Marian K. Barclay and Bessie Hughes; his uncle Glenn Hughes and family; his uncle Doug Barclay and family; his uncle Alan Barclay and family; and countless friends whose lives he touched. A celebration of Jake’s life is being held Saturday, September 3 at Eureka United Methodist Church. Visitation for those wishing to spend time with Jake’s family will be 9-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. All are welcome. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you thoughtfully consider donating to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) or the St. Louis Crisis Nursery. SCHRADER FUNERAL HOME service.
