Funeral services for Jeff Cowan 89, life- long resident of Dunbarton, LA. will be 11am Saturday September 03, 2016 at Dunbarton Baptist Church with Rev. Elbert Sanson officiating. Interment will follow at Cypress Grove Cemetery in Dunbarton, LA. with military and masonic honors under the direction of Comer Funeral Home Ferriday, LA.
Mr. Cowan was born June 30, 1927 in Ferriday, LA. to the union of Albert and Alice Tarver Cowan and passed from this life August 31, 2016 at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Cowan was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a tail gunner on the B-29 Bomber.
He was a life- long member and deacon of Dunbarton Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Ferriday Masonic Lodge #390 for sixty-five years and received his 50 year apron in 2001. He held several offices over the years and was currently the lodge's treasurer. He loved the Lord and his family with all of his heart and will surely be missed by all that knew him.
Mr. Cowan is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Alice Cowan, a child Mary Ruth Cowan, brothers Virgil Cowan, Bill Cowan, Curtis Cowan, Irvin Cowan, Raymond Cowan; sisters Edith Cowan and Betty Hollis.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-five years Nina Ruth Cowan, children Harold and wife Edna of Clayton, LA., James and wife Debbie of Ridgecrest, LA., Susan Cooper of Sicily Island, LA., Linda Hedrick and husband Kenneth of Ferriday, LA.; grandchildren Jason Cowan, Alecia Wiley and husband Jason, Will Cowan and wife Brandy, Dusti Stowers and husband Benjy, Jared Hedrick, David Hedrick and wife Whitney, Ivan Hedrick and wife Mandy and eleven great-grandchildren; a sister Dorothy Guice and husband Jim of Dunbarton, LA., brothers Earl Cowan and wife Jan of Centerton, Arkansas, Harvey Cowan and wife Ann of Dunbarton, LA. and John Cowan and wife Hilda of Dunbarton, LA. and many nieces, nephews and friends.
