Rachel Harris, age 79, of Boone, died August 29, 2016, at the Boone County Hospital.

Rachel Anna (McCall) Harris, was born in Rockport, Missouri, on March 13, 1937, the daughter of Thomas and Rachel (Wooten) McCall.

She graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio, Missouri, in 1954.

On October 22, 1955, Rachel married Jimmie Harris in Tarkio.

Rachel worked as a manager at the former Hallmark Store in Boone, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #104.

Rachel enjoyed flower gardening, especially growing red roses. She also enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning. Rachel liked the country western music of Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty.

She enjoyed dancing in earlier years and her family was her pride and joy and she loved family outings and get-togethers. Rachel and Jimmie enjoyed attending the races at the Boone Speedway.

Rachel is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Thomas ‘Bus’, Donald, Teddy, and Paul; sisters Sarah, Blanche, Lucy, Betty Ruth, and Jackie and her twin, and three infant siblings; and a grandson Michael Disbrowe.

She is survived by her husband Jimmie of Boone; three sons Dick Harris and wife Patty, Rick "Sam" Harris, and Nick Harris and wife Carla, all of Boone; two daughters Vicki Keffer and husband Ron of Slater and Tracy Jackson and husband Roger of Boone; two brothers William McCall and wife Iola of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Billy Ray McCall and wife Nancy of Agency, Missouri; three sisters Opal Still of St. Joseph, Missouri, Lottie Gothard of Lindale, Texas, and Patsy Angold and husband Tom of St. Joseph, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Friday at the funeral chapel after 8 a.m. until the time of the service.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 2, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association of Iowa.
