...Jessie Lee Phelps, son of Horace and Lida Phelps, was born in Decatur County, Iowa, March 11, 1876 and grew to manhood there. He was united in marriage to Meda Dooley in 1897 near Lineville, Iowa, to this union was born seven children; two sons preceded him in death, Albert and Irvin. Mr. Phelps passed away from this life May 23, 1956 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Centerville, Iowa, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 12 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and son, Elmer of Mystic, Iowa, four daughters, Mrs. Mary Stout of Mystic, Mrs. Ruth King of Coryden (sic), Iowa and one sister, Mrs. Stella Dooley of Jerome, Ga.(sic), 32 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and host of relatives and friends.
...Mr. Phelps had followed the railroad and coal mining as his occupation and was a member of local V.M.W. of A. He had been retired for some time.
