"Lyn Bailey, age 82, of Cadiz, KY, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz, KY. After graduating from the University of Memphis, Lyn Bailey moved his family to Cadiz in 1959 and started Bailey Lumber Company. While operating the sawmill for almost forty years, Mayor Bailey served numerous terms on the Cadiz City Council, the Cadiz Water Commission, Chairman of the Trigg County Republican Party, and Trigg County Farmers Bank Board of Directors. Mr. Bailey served as mayor of Cadiz from January 1999 to December 2014. During his tenure, Mr. Bailey has been instrumental in the revitalization of the downtown commercial district with the formation of the Cadiz Renaissance on Main program. Under his leadership, the city purchased and restored a vacant downtown storefront for use as today's city hall. During Mayor Bailey's term as mayor the city received more than ten million dollars in grants which included grants for low income housing, 3 phases of streetscape projects, sewer and water improvements, city park facilities, a new conference center, safe route to school grants, safety grants, and several homeland security grants for police department. Mr. Bailey served as Vice Chairman on the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority Board; Chairman of the Pennyrile Area Development District; Mr. Bailey received the 2001 Ida Lee Willis Historic Preservation Award; and received Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year Award in 2014. He served in the US Army, was a member of the Cadiz Masonic Lodge No. 121, Rizpah Shrine Temple & Western KY Scottish Rite. Mr. Bailey had a deep love for his community of Cadiz, KY & was a dedicated public servant that always placed the citizens & community first. He is survived by: Two Sons- Newell Bailey & wife, Dianne, Cadiz, KY; Dorsie G. Bailey & wife, Donna, Terre Haute, IN; Seven Grandchildren - Tripp Bailey & fiancé, Autumn Johnson; Erica B. Kington & husband, Kenneth; Hogan Bailey; Brooke Bailey Abner & husband, Josh; Poe Bailey; Stephanie Oliver; and Debra Oliver; Three Great Grandchildren - Bailey Kington, Callie Kington, and Macy Kington. He was preceded in death by: Parents- Dorsie Green & Betty "Crickett" Stewart Bailey; Wife - Jane Bailey; Two Brothers- Calvin Coolidge Bailey; Edward Bailey and Two Sisters- Vera Mitchell; Alice Douglas. Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, KY where the family will receive friends after 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 01, 2016. Funeral Service will be at Goodwin Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday, September 2, 2016 with the Reverend Norman Cotton officiating & Hollis Alexander providing the eulogy. Burial will follow at East End Cemetery in Cadiz, KY. Memorial Contributions can be made to: Trigg Co. Senior Citizen's Center, PO Box 99, Cadiz, KY 42211."
