Jesus "Jesse" Rivas, 82, of Pittsburg, died Monday Nov. 27, 2006, at his home. Born April 10, 1924, in Chihuahua, Mexico, he was the son of Manuel and Narissa (Marcus) Rivas. He served in the United States Army during WW II. He married Lois Arevalos on Jan. 9, 1953, in Dallas, and owned and operated a body shop in Dallas before retiring. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife, Lois Rivas, of the home; sons, J. Marcus Rivas, Dallas, Michael Rivas, of Muskogee, and Steven Rivas, of Ardmore. Also, daughters, Lisa Florio and husband, Edmond, Katy, Texas, and Cynthia Hazell, of Pittsburg; brother-in-law, Jesse Arevalos, of Del City; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in McAlester with the Rev. Leonard Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Pittsburg Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Harrison Powers Post No. 79. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester. Pallbearers will be sons, Michael Rivas, Marcus Rivas, Steven Rivas, grandsons, David Rivas, Jesse Arevalos Jr., Edmond Florio, Joseph Kilman, and brother-in-law, Jesse Arevalos. Honorary pallbearers will be William D. Wood and Nicholas Hazell.
