Glenda Pearl King, age 82, passed away after a lengthy illness on August 26, 2016 at her home in Jacksonville, Fl. Glenda was born in Ohatchee, Alabama on February 9, 1934. After graduating high school and marrying, the family moved to Jacksonville, FL where she resided since 1960. She retired from Morrison's Cafeteria in 2000 after 20 years of service.
She was predeceased by her parents Gladys and Eugene Harden; sisters Edna Propst (Cliffford), Gypsy Holcombe (Hawk), and Leila Ann Harden; first husband and father of the children, Hobert Mintz; and second husband, Roger Williams. She is survived by her loving, dedicated husband of 16 years Bruce King; daughters Debbie Skipper (William) and Kimberly Patton (Art); sons Steven Mintz (Tina), Stanley Mintz (Sydney), and Jim Mintz; grandchildren Amy Marie Mintz, Scott Mintz, Rebecca Patton, Zach Patton, Laura Skipper, Aaron Skipper, Jason Skipper, Jimmy Mintz, Ashley Mintz, Tracy Rhoden, Jacqueline Belz; great grandchildren Hailey Renae Mintz, Dayveon Jordan Mintz, Petey Marks, Jacob Patton, Brooke, Dylan, Brittany Anderson, Autumn Belz, Aspin Belz; Anna Belz, David Belz; several great great grandchildren; family dog Jerry, who greeted her daily with a reassuring and loving lick to her hand; nieces Stephanie Snavley, Lisa McKibbin; nephews Byron Holcombe, Rush Propst, Phillip Propst; and many friends. A special thanks to Sydney Mintz, Glenda's caregiver during her illness.
Affectionately called Nana and Momma, Glenda attracted others with her kindness, generosity, high energy, warm smile, and welcoming and loving arms. She enjoyed a good joke and laughed a lot. Definitely a life well-lived, she loved God and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No doubt she is in Heaven awaiting all those she loved on Earth to continue the journey (in due time) with her into Eternity. She will be missed, remembered, and continue to be loved by everyone.
Visitation for Glenda King will be on Friday, September 2 from 5 to 7 pm (family an hour earlier) at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32073. (904) 272-2435. The funeral service will be at 10 am on Saturday, September 3 at Trinity Baptist Church, 800 Hammond Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32221 (904) 596-2400.
