PAHOKEE - A. Roswell Harrington Jr., age 60, of Pahokee, died at his home on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011.

Roswell was born in Pahokee and grew up in Canal Point. He was a graduate of Palm Beach Junior College and Florida Atlantic University (FAU), earning a B.S. degree in Middle School Education in Science and a M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling, both from FAU. Most recently he was a Manager of Keen Development Corp.

He was an active member of the Canal Point United Methodist Church, being involved on both the local and conference levels of his church, having been trained as a lay speaker and active in the Fellowship of Small Membership Churches.

Roswell taught elementary science and worked as an elementary guidance counselor at Jefferson Davis Middle School and Belle Glade Elementary School; served as a Counselor for Florida's Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services; farmed with his father; worked for Sameh S El Dagarr and Sam's Investment Corp.; and was been very involved in many community organizations, among them Glades Technical Advisory Committee (GTAC), the Glades Economic Forum, Canal Point Renewal, Glades Eco-Farm Tours, Canal Point Lion's Club, Canal Point Volunteer Department, creation of the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail (LOST), and the Palm Beach County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), trying to ensure that the Glades area received the respect it deserves and that its quality of life not only is maintained but improved. He was a gleaning coordinator for the Society of St. Andrew and currently involved in the East Beach Family Emergency Depot.

Roswell was the son of A. R. & Gladys (Folsom) Harrington, both deceased.

Roswell is survived by his son, Jeffrey B. Harrington (Karelia) of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Janette Campbell (Glenn) of Canal Point, and their daughter Eleanor Campbell (Trevor Longino), and Nancy Thompson (Ray) and their two sons Bryant C. and Louis E. Thompson of Sumter, S.C., and Patricia Evans Harrington (former wife) of LaBelle. A third nephew, William

B. Campbell preceded him in death.

Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Canal Point United Methodist Church. Funeral was held on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Canal Point United Methodist Church. His internment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1295 South Dixie, West Palm Beach.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given in his name to the Canal Point United Methodist Church, 2nd Street, Canal Point, FL 33438, and designated for the Harrington Memorial Fund for Youth Camp Scholarships.
