Louis John (L.J.) Watson, 89, of Poplar Bluff passed from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving family and Pastor and friend, Steve Proctor.

Mr. Watson was born on June 7, 1927 in Rector, AR to the late Fred and Lucy Presson Watson. On July 1, 1950, he married Doris Jean Kirby from Kennett, MO in Piggott, AR to whom he remained faithfully married for 60 years.

Mr. Watson proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Cocopa as a Radioman in the South Pacific Theatre. For his merits he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Area Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
He retired after a successful career from the Whirlpool Corporation. He was a longtime member of Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. Louis was a good provider, a loving husband and father and a faithful friend.

Survivors include his three children, Vickie (Roger) Richey of Poplar Bluff, MO Rhonda (Mark) Boone of Jackson, MO and Jeff (Kelly) Watson of Mooresville, NC; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a stepsister, Wanell Eason of Rector, AR.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean; three sisters, Evelyn Faulkner, Roma Jean Randall and Ellen Wrage, one brother, Earl Stallings and an aunt and uncle, Nancy and Carlos Presson who raised him.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 30th at Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31st at Westwood Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Proctor officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Westwood Baptist Church or Academy, 419 CR 5231, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.
