SAN DIEGO, Calif - Kim W. Turner, 65, of San Diego, Calif., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, due to complications from surgery.

Born July 15, 1951, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of the late Kenneth W. and Margaret "Peg" Turner.

He attended Valley Forge Military Academy, graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1969, and received his bachelor's degree from Kent State University. Kim was a respected Civil War historian. He was co-founder of the company Command Perspectives, which produced Historical Military War Games

A resident of San Diego most of his life, Kim recently retired, but spent his career as a special researcher, layout designer and editor for educational publications.

Kim was a brilliant, kind and caring man and he was loving husband, father, son, brother and friend.

Kim enjoyed spending time at the beach, breeding various tropical fish, and being with family and friends. He loved watching football, especially his favorite team since he was 2, The Alabama Crimson Tide. His favorite pro teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos. He also loved listening to the Potters high school football games.

His wife, Sandy, whom he married April 14, 1979, survives, at home. He also leaves behind his daughter, Ariana Valeria Augusta, and his brother-in-law, Gardiner Mushkin.

Kim is also survived by his sisters Bridgette Turner and her husband, Steve Puican, of Columbus, and Tammie McIntosh and her husband, Bart, of Newell; and his niece, Lauren McIntosh.

A private memorial celebration of Kim's life will be conducted at a later time
