Vera L. Allison, 93, of Franklin Grove, formerly of Sterling, died Sunday, August 28th,2016 at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born December 7, 1922 in Sterling, the daughter of Menno Long and Pearl (Landis) Long. Vera was a member of the Sterling High School Class of 1941. She received degrees from Goshen College, and later from Pestalozzi Frobel Teachers College. She married Wayne L. Allison on September 28, 1947 in Sterling. He preceded her in death on April 3rd, 1983. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Sterling.

Vera was an elementary schoolteacher for 24 years. She taught for four years in two local one-room schools, Swan Lake, and Round Grove. After marrying and raising her children, she taught 4th grade at Como School for 19 years and finished her career at Washington School.

She loved music and reading non-fiction books. One of her favorite hobbies was taking pictures and putting together photo albums for her children and grandchildren. She also loved to entertain and had many life-long friends.

Vera is survived by three children, Larry (Patricia) Allison, Goodyear, Arizona, Connie (Joseph) Anderson, Sterling, and Carla (Alan) Connelly, Sterling; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Melissa) Allison, Paisley (Humphrey) Sichone, Erik (Amy) Anderson, Justin Anderson, (Rebecca Tieman, fiancee), Corey (Julie) Anderson, Jill (David) Tipp, and Aaron Connelly; and ten great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother Dale(Joyce) Long, one sister, Darlene Haak, and one sister in law, Elsie Long, all from Sterling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Byron, and one son, Lynn, in infancy.

The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3rd at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kenneth Zuithoff officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends at 10:00 at the church preceding the funeral. The burial will take place at East Jordan Church cemetery. A memorial has been established to a Sterling children's food program. Donations can be made to Sterling Buddy Bags, First Presbyterian Church, Sterling, IL.
