Civil War: Company E, 4th Vermont Infantry

Albert A. Kinsman was a resident at Rochester, Vermont, when he enlisted as a private on August 26, 1861. Private Kinsman was mustered into Company E, 4th Vermont Infantry, on September 21, 1861. He was later promoted to corporal. Corporal Kinsman was wounded in action during the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia, on May 5, 1864. While recovering from his wounds he was promoted to sergeant on June 7, 1864. After recuperating, Sergeant Kinsman was mustered out on September 30, 1864. Albert filed for a Civil War veteran's disability pension in Pepin County, Wisconsin, on August 26, 1887, and received application No. 620,697 and certificate No. 545,165. He married Emma "Anna" Ogden in Pepin County on September 9, 1891. After his death in 1919, Emma filed for a Civil War widow's pension in Pepin County on August 25, 1919, and received application No. 1,145,476 and certificate No. 914,440.
