"Jacksonville, Fla. (AP) - A former member of the Lynyrd Skynyrd rock group remained hospitalized in serious condition today, suffering from injuries he received in an accident that killed a passenger in his car.
Allen Collins, 33, a guitarist, was charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended and revoked license after the Wednesday night accident in South Jacksonville. He was in serious but stable condition this morning, said University Hospital spokeswoman Leslie Heinrich.
Debra Watts Lizama, 31, who lived with Collins, was killed in the accident, said Mike Kee, a police spokesman. She was thrown from the car when it veered into a ditch, hit a concrete culvert and landed on its roof before rolling onto its wheels. Detective D.B. Moore estimated the car was traveling at 70 to 90 mph before the accident." (Associated Press, 31 January, 1986)
