Corey William Taylor entered this world too soon, and departed it far too soon. He was born to James and Valerie Taylor eleven weeks premature on June 21, 1991, in Pensacola, FL. He left us too soon and suddenly due to a motorcycle accident in John's Creek, GA, on August 21, 2016, at the age of 25.
We first saw Corey's inherent strength as he fought for eight weeks in the NICU to survive. After those eight weeks, he joined his elated parents at their home in Shalimar, FL, where he grew and gained a sister, Savannah, two years later in 1993. In August of 2000, the Taylors moved from Shalimar, FL to Johns Creek, GA. They enjoyed returning to Northwest Florida for holidays and hosting their cousins at their home in Atlanta during the summers. Corey thrived in Atlanta, giving no hint of his "preemie" beginnings. Throughout high school, Corey trained as a fire explorer within the Fire Academy of Braselton, GA, where he earned the title of Captain in his senior year. He was in the first class to graduate from the new John's Creek High School in 2010. In September 2010, Corey proudly graduated from the US Marine Corps Recruit Training at Parris Island, SC. Although he did not make a career of the Marines, the experience from the training, including character building, teamwork, and physical strength, remained with him throughout his life. Corey learned the tile installation trade working alongside his father in the family business, Taylored Tile. He later began working with Spectra Contract Flooring, a division of Berkshire Hathaway, in 2013. At Spectra, he found a company that gave him excellent training, opportunities for advancement, challenging work, and above all else a place he called a second home. Within Spectra, his skills flourished and he became a very knowledgeable and respected Field Superintendent, working on large, complex commercial flooring installations throughout the Southeast. Corey loved fishing and pursued an array of passions outdoors. Many mornings, he would wake up at the crack of dawn to wade out in the water and go fishing. No matter how large his catch, he always released. His sarcastic, joking nature was backed with an insurmountable love. Corey would put everyone at ease the moment he entered a room. His thirst for life was truly unquenchable, his laughter loud and heartfelt, and his smile instantly contagious.
Corey leaves behind a shocked and bereaved family and numerous friends and co-workers who truly adored his kind soul and unmatched work ethic. He lived in Peachtree Corners, GA. He had been renewing his faith and attending services at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, GA. Left to cherish Corey's memory are his parents James and Valerie Taylor of Johns Creek, GA, and sister Savannah Taylor of Atlanta, GA; grandparents Don and Bette Heapy of Shalimar, FL; aunts and uncles Gary and Kathi Heapy of Shalimar, FL, Felton and Karyn Sullivant of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Marcia Taylor of San Antonio, TX, and Charlie and Terry Ellington of North Pole, AK; cousins Nick Heapy and wife, Allie, of John's Creek, GA, Mary Heapy of Auburn, AL, Erin Heapy of Shalimar, FL, Brandy Sullivant-Crosby of Crestview, FL, and Buddy Sullivant of Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was predeceased by his grandparents Mable Taylor and Harold Angus.
A celebration of Corey Taylor's life will be held at the North Point Community Church, 4350 North Point Parkway, Alpharetta, GA, on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. On-line messages and flower orders may be placed at www.mcdonaldandson.com. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Corey's memory with a memorial donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities https://donate.rmhc.org/ or the Children's Miracle Network https://giveamiracle.childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org/Home/Donation (Studer Family Children's Hospital at Sacred Heart, Pensacola, FL)
