Peter "Pete" Pinkney Rowe, 81, of Hickory, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Rowe was born February 6, 1935 in Burke County to the late Daniel Ellis Rowe and Lola Pearl Killian Rowe. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Junior Rowe, Bobby Rowe, Benny Joe Rowe, Tellis Rowe and Arris M. Rowe, 3 sisters; Arlene Rowe Hudson Smith, Janice Rowe Parker and Patricia Rowe Lunsford.
Mr. Rowe attended Clevenger College of Business and served in the U.S. Army in Korea and Japan. He and his father began R & R Sales Company in Hildebran. He and his wife owned and operated numerous businesses in multiple locations over the years. Pete was a very astute businessman but also a generous man, very soft hearted and most of all, a man of his word. He thoroughly enjoyed helping others during his lifetime.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Miiko I. Rowe of the home, 2 sons; Mitchell T. Rowe and wife Becky and Terry L. Rowe all of Hickory, a daughter Kathy R. Keener and husband Staley of Hickory, grandchildren; Sarah Keener Moretz and husband Charles, Katherine Keener Nye and husband Brandon, Laura G. Keener, Peter Allen Rowe and wife Julianne, W. Beauregard Rowe and Laney R. Rowe, great grandchildren; Lily K. Moretz, Eva Grace Moretz, MacLaren Moretz and Sydney M. Nye, 2 sisters; Constance Rowe Baker of Hickory and Carol Rowe Smith and husband Larry of Chattanooga, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Private entombment will be held at Catawba Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
