The White and Elkins families both go back to the early 1600’s, when this country was first being settled by European settlers. The Whites came for religious freedom and the Elkins as adventurers looking to open up trade and make a profit. This marriage between Susannah Elkins and John White (1799-1856). was the first of many that would take place between these two familial lines during the next century. Some in Logan. Some in Boone. Some in the adjoining counties.

Both families could be considered to have now been in the Logan, WV, area for at least 150 years.

Susannah, met and later married John Wesley White IV, about 1819 in Logan, WV. He was a farmer and died sometime prior to 1850. Nearly 50 years old. Her youngest was just a few years old. At least 5 others children were minors, also living at home. Then came Thomas Taylor, a widower, a few years older than her first husband. He was an Englishman that had been living in Logan since 1840, and had already raised his family. He was ready to help her. He married her and took in the children.

After, this the trail becomes muddied. Susannah is said to have died around 1870. Thomas?
