Mr. John Dant Barkley, the son of the late, Esaw Barkley and Alabama Baker, was born October 20, 1920, in Terre Haute, Inidiana. John the oldest of eight children was raised in Terre Haute where he graduated and obtained his high school dipolma. His father was a Minister who had instilled in him a strong and deep work ethic, and during hard times John helped his family by working various jobs.

In 1970 John married Mary Helen Hickman and together they made their home in Southfield To this union they had a son, John J. Barkley.

John was a devoted family who worked tirelessley to provide a safe and comfortable life for his family.

John later continued his education by receiving specialized training working with metals. At Henry Ford Motor Company he worked as a Maintenance Welder until his retirement at the age of 76 in 1996. He continued to live at his home in Southfield until he became a resident at Henry Ford Village in 2002.

On Tuesday morning, November 28, 2006, John died suddenly at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn. He lived 86 years, two months, and eight days.

He leaves to cherish his memory a son, John J. Barkley of Rochester Hills, MI; a grandson, John McFarland; siblings; and Mary Helen
