Elaine was born October 20, 1935 in Des Moines, IA to Chalmer "Pat" and Frances Helen (McQuillen) Thompson. Elaine married Walter Lee Smeltzer in 1953, raised 4 children, and was a dedicated farm wife.
Elaine is survived by sons: Chuck (Julie) Smeltzer of Ste Genevieve, MO, Dennis (Rhonda) Smeltzer of Woodward, Mick Smeltzer of Woodward, grandchildren: David (Dori) Smeltzer of Woodward, Troy (Andi Jo) Smeltzer of Granger, and Chris (Josie) Smeltzer of Polk City, Josh (Christine) Barbour of Ste Genevieve, MO, Justin Barbour of Perry, Jessie Barbour of Ste Genevieve, MO, several great grandchildren, and sister Germaine (Fred) Echterling of Prole, IA.
Preceding Elaine in death were Walt (husband), Christine (daughter), Jackie Gonder (sister), parents and grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to establish a bench in honor of Elaine at the Iowa State Fair.
