Family conducted memorial service for Harvey Joe Lewis, 81, will be 1 p.m., Tuesday at the Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Tolbert officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard.

The son of the later Willie Dudley Lewis and Sefrona (Luna) Lewis, Joe was born on May 19, 1935, in Greenville, and passed away on Aug. 24, 2016, in the local hospital.

Joe grew up in the Love and Murray County area. He had worked with the Oklahoma City Department of Transportation as a bus driver during the 1960’s. Retiring as a signalman, Joe worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.

He had been a resident of Ardmore for the past 15 years moving here from Denison, Texas. Joe was a member of the Odd Fellows and the Burneyville Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. Joe had his pilot license and had his own plane.

Survivors include his sister, Myra Buckley and husband, George; niece, Sherry Loper and husband, Dennis; nephew, Steve Lewis and wife, Deanna; several nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Cremation services were entrusted to the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home and Crematory.
