He was born on Feb. 20, 1939, on Big Battle, a son of the late Wayman Beaurl and Edna Ellen Ford Swiger.
On Sept. 2, 2000, he married Barbara Crawford Swiger who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Larrietta Merritt, Anita Underwood and husband Randy, Cindy Pratt, Stephanie Moore and husband, Dennis and Casey Swiger; two stepchildren, Doug LeMasters and wife, Laura and Angela Vandruff and husband, Brian; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carol Bennett, Barbara Ash and Linda Nutter and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Donald “Herb” Swiger, Leonard Swiger, Dennis Swiger and Alfred Swiger preceded him in death.
Mr. Swiger was retired from Bayer Corporation, New Martinsville, as a diesel mechanic. He was a member of Friendship Lodge No. 56 AF & AM. Larry was a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in Clarksburg and Wheeling bodies. He enjoyed hunting and owned several stock cars, where he enjoyed racing them at Tyler County Speedway. Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Spurgeon Funeral Home 212 Front St., West Union, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at 7 p.m. with Pastor Robert Merritt presiding. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel after 2 p.m. on Tuesday until time of service.
