Wife of William Arthur Lytle
wed before 12 Sept 1918, Dallam Co, Texas
Mother of Margaret Ganelle, [07 Sept 1916-17 Apr 2001]
Helen and William died in the 1918 flu epidemic, six days apart. Their baby daughter was raised by her great aunt Kate O'Brate Inman in Dalhart, TX, and went to live with her two aunts, Jo & Edna Shryack, in Washington state when she was ready to enter college.
SITUATION BAD AT TEXLINE
Reports from Texline are that the flu situation has been extreme, but conditions at last report had improved. The only practicing physician left before the worst came, and doctors from Dalhart and Clayton have been rendering some service. The following deaths have been reported: Joe Hudspeth, Bill Lytle and wife, Z.E. Beckham and a Mr. Brown
XIT Museum, Dalhart, Texas
This is all I could find on the death of Helen Lytle. From reading through the papers it looks as if the flu was taking many lives at this time. We did not have a copy of the Texline paper from this time frame and the Dalhart Texan was printed weekly and it seems that if the death did not take place close to the printing date there was not always an obituary for that particular person. I did search through January and part of early February but could not locate any other information.
Hope this will provide a small amount of information.
