Karen Lee Patterson, 53, of Houston, died Thursday, August 25 at Methodist West Hospital after a short illness. Born January 28, 1963 in Falfurrias, TX, she moved to Houston at age two and presided here the remainder of her life. Services are Monday, August 29 at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery with burial at the cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, August 28th from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Michael Patterson who died in 2007 and mother Ann Marius Galceran Patterson who died in 2009 and her grandparents Earl Galceran and Minnie Barrow Galceran, Houston and Alta Lois Gillis Patterson and Jack Riley (Buster)Patterson, Mendenhall, MS. The Patterson family, Jack, Ann and Karen, were owners of Barker Sign Company in Katy and were active donors/volunteers of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR). Karen became a life member of the HLSR in 1996 and, in addition to her many contributions, she held two very important leadership roles as a member and vice chairman of the Junior Commercial Steer Committee and Quarter Horse Committee. Karen committed 20 years of committee service history from 1997-2016. She will be remembered for her lengthy service to HLSR. Her other volunteer commitment was to Almost Home Rescue and Mutt and Meows, providing foster home services for homeless animals. She spent many Saturdays at Pet Smart helping to find homes for the homeless animals. One of her favorite pastimes was trail riding with and holding membership in LOTT, Ladies of Texas Tradition, whose toast reads: 'Here's a toast to our LOTT sisters, we ride all day and get no blisters. We smile and laugh but never moan, because we have no testosterone. So raise your glass, to the Ladies with class, The Ladies of Texas Tradition." Karen was a graduate of Katy High School and the University of Texas where she obtained a master's degree. She is survived by her uncles Myles Galceran, Beaumont, TX and Earl Lee Galceran and his wife Linda Carol of Houston and Galveston; two aunts, Betty Dickson of Asheville, NC and Lynn Timpano and Frank, Lincoln, CA. Other survivors include her cousins, Lynn Dickson Mesinas and Gino, Malibu, CA, Beth Dickson-Gavney and Dean, Flowood, MS, David Threadgill and Meghan, Atlanda, GA, Sherri Burcham and Mike, and Robert Galceran and Lori of Houston and Chris Galceran and Glenda, Breckenridge, CO and her God children Morgan Burcham and Michael Burcham II of Houston. Pallbearers are Rob Galceran, Chris Galceran, Michael Murcham, Michael Burcham II, John Swearingen and Lee Swearingen.
