Born in Sonora Township, he was the son of Lawrence and Beulah Kellogg Bolton. He had been married to Janice Kay Smith Jones.
He graduated from Hamilton High School. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957. He was a farmer. He enjoyed putting puzzles together, helping at Western Illinois Threshers and visiting with friends at the coffee shop.
Survivors include one son, Vernon Dale Bolton of Hamilton; one daughter, Karen Goetz of Keokuk; special friend, Colleen Varner of Hamilton; six grandchildren; one great–grandson; and two sisters, Ardith Wenke of Topeka, Kan., and Euvon Radel of Nauvoo, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
The funeral was held at Lamporte Funeral Home, with the Rev. Greg Ketcham officiating.
