Born in Port Arthur, Texas on Dec 27, 1930 to Charles Randolph Crittenden (32) and Winnie "Bee" Vivian Lyons (22). Her older brother Charles Jr was 1 years old when she was born and about 15 years later her sister Jean Ann was born.

They lived in Port Arthur where her dad owned a convenience store which he sold after the World War II in 1946 and he moved the family to Fredericksburg. Betty was a sophomore when she started attending Fredericksburg High School. It was here Betty met JO "Boy" Tanner. They were married after their high school graduation on June 11, 1949. The beginning of a marriage that truly lasted a lifetime and started a family that continues to be close to them and each other.

They were married for 64 years and lived in various places including Midland, San Antonio and Kerrville. It wasn't until they moved to Lampasas in 1961 that they found the place they would call home. After retiring, they continued to stay active by playing golf and traveling well into their 80's.

Betty will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery next to Boy in Lampasas, Texas on August 27, 2016.

Betty is survived by her daughters Sandra Sparkman, Kathy Hunt and her husband Darrel, and her son Leslie Tanner and his wife Rhonda, her sister Jean Gardner and her husband James, her grandchildren Wade Sparkman (Kerri), Andrew Sparkman (Julie), Jill Yonnone, Colton Jordan, Sarah Tanner, Tami Schroeder (Jimmy) and Kevin Hunt, great grandchildren Taylor and Chrislyn Sparkman, Rebecca, Daniel, David and Annalise Sparkman, Cosmo, Rory and Phinneas Yononne, Cole and Katie Schroeder, Nolan and Braxton Hunt and McKenzie Jordan.
