CARTER Riley Carter, 85, of Jacksonville passed away September 25, 2002. He was one of ten children of Levi and Della Craven Carter of Appling County, Ga. He is survived by a brother, William (Carolyn) and several nieces and nephews. Riley was a veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific Theatre as a Marine. He received the Purple Heart and was in intense battles on the Marshall Islands, Saipan, and Iwo Jima, receiving several awards for meritorious service.

Graveside services with family only will be held at Riverside Memorial Park. Memorial services honoring him will be held 11:30 AM Monday, Sept. 30th at Riverside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday (today) at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 729 S. Edgewood Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church.
